Multicultural SA hosted a highly successful meeting of multicultural youth in Adelaide on 2 May 2009 to implement ideas from a Multicultural Youth Summit in October 2008.
|
Hieu Van Le, the Chairman of the South Australian Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission, and the Hon. Tom Koutsantonis M.P., the Minister Assisting the Minister for Multicultural Affairs, and the Minister for Youth (left), opened the meeting.
The meeting focused on two of the recommendations outlined in the Youth Summit report. |
These were to:
-
provide young people with opportunities to undertake training in the management and organisation of clubs and events.
-
investigate the establishment of a ‘Federation of Youth Groups’ that will include representatives from different ethnic groups, to share ideas, knowledge and facilities and to assist in sourcing funds and in the organisation of multicultural events.
Twenty-two participants volunteered to be part of the steering committee to establish the new organisation and Multicultural SA will convene the first meeting of the committee on 23 May.
At the meeting, Multicultural SA took the opportunity to launch the newly created Facebook group, SA Multicultural Youth Discussion Group
In line with the recommendations from the Youth Summit, this group has been set up to facilitate discussion and share information about upcoming ethnic youth events, activities and new youth organisations.
The commitment demonstrated by the participants has created an excellent foundation for sharing of information and connecting people with similar interests, supporting the future success of the Facebookgroup.
