Hieu Van Le AO, BEC, MBA, CPA

Hieu Van Le is the Chairman of the South Australian Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission (SAMEAC). He has been appointed as Chairman to 31 December 2016.

Mr Le has been a member of the SAMEAC since 1995, including three years as Deputy Chairman and, since 1 January 2006, as Chairman.

He was a Senior Manager, Financial Services Regulation, at the Adelaide Regional Office, of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) until March 2009.

He has been a Member of South Australia’s Community Engagement Board since 2007; a member of the Research Centre for Languages and Cultures at the University of South Australia since September 2009; a Member of the Alumni Advisory Committee of the University of Adelaide since 2009; and a Member of the Education Adelaide Board since 2010.

Mr Le is the Patron or honorary member of a range of organisations including:

 

  • Overseas Chinese Association
  • Australian-Tanzanian Services Foundation Inc.
  • Multicultural Festival of South Australia Inc.

 

  • The Vietnamese Literature and Arts Association
  • Friends of the Vietnamese Invalid Veterans Association

 

 

 

  • Foundation Ambassador for the Gardens of Health, Adelaide Botanic Gardens
  • Ambassador Pandas Project - Adelaide Zoo
  • Business Ambassadors Group, Port Adelaide Football Club

Mr Le is an Ambassador of:

  • The White Ribbon Foundation
  • The Australian Refugee Association

Mr Le is a recipient of the following awards and recognition:

 

  • Australia Day Medal for outstanding service to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

  • Centenary Medal “for service to the advancement of multiculturalism and the Vietnamese Community” 2001.

  • “Golden Achiever of the Year” awarded by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce SA Inc. 2008.

  • He was appointed as an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) in the Australia Day announcement of January 2010. 

  • Honorary Doctorate for service to the society, University of Adelaide 2008.

  • Honorary Doctorate for significant contribution to society, Flinders University 2011.

  • Paul Harris Fellowship (2009) - inducted by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary. International.
