New Multicultural SA Director

Ms Sophia Poppe has been appointed Director of Multicultural SA.

Announcing Sophia’s appointment in June, Department for Communities and Social Inclusion Chief Executive Joslene Mazel wrote:

“Sophia comes into the position with some relevant, notable achievements. Most recently, she was Assistant Director of the Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health in the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing where she was responsible for achieving the outcomes of the Commonwealth’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health policy, including implementing two new community-controlled Aboriginal Health Services in Port Augusta and Ceduna. Sophia also worked in Multicultural SA in 2010 for 12 months as Director, Coordination of Humanitarian Settlement Services where she led the implementation of a social inclusion initiative – a coordinated state wide settlement services system so that humanitarian entrants in South Australia had the best possible opportunities to settle and be productive members of the community. This initiative was a first in Australia. Her previous places of employment include SA Health, Service to Youth Council and Carers Association of SA, all very relevant experiences to working in DCSI. I welcome Sophia as a member of Executive.

Also, I wish to take this opportunity to thank Roger Lean who has very capably acted as Director, Multicultural SA for the past 12 months.”
